You may come to help. You may leave changed.
Volunteers often arrive thinking they are coming to coach, tutor, film, organize, or serve for a few days. Then they meet the students, families, and local leaders behind the mission.
That is when the work becomes personal. The field becomes a doorway. A conversation becomes mentorship. A small skill becomes part of a student's future.
Come to Barahona
There's nothing like seeing the program in person. Volunteers who visit Barahona come back changed.
You'll work alongside local staff, meet players and families, and experience exactly where every dollar goes. Trip length and logistics vary by role. Vias RD can help volunteers coordinate local contacts, scheduling, and practical trip details when appropriate.

Common questions
Everything you need to know before volunteering with Vias RD in Barahona.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
Not at all for most roles. Spanish is helpful for in-person trips and tutoring, but many volunteers contribute remotely in English. Our local team helps bridge communication gaps.
How much time do I need to commit?
It depends on the role. Remote roles like marketing or grant writing may only require a few flexible hours each week. In-person opportunities vary depending on the role, timing, and program needs.
Is this a paid position?
U.S.-based roles are volunteer. Dominican staff are paid as funding allows, and we hope to expand paid opportunities on the ground as the organization grows.
Can I visit Barahona even if I'm not a coach or tutor?
Absolutely. Photographers, videographers, coordinators, fundraisers, and supporters are all welcome. If you care about the mission, we'll help create a meaningful experience.
Who will I be working with?
You'll work with Brian for onboarding and coordination, alongside Vias RD's Dominican leadership and local partners in Barahona.
What if I don't see a role that fits my skills?
Select “Other” in the application and tell us what you bring. We're a small organization with a lot of needs. If you're passionate about the mission, there's probably a place for you.
Ready to get involved?
Tell us who you are, what skills you bring, and how you'd like to help. Brian will personally review your application and follow up to discuss opportunities that fit your skills and availability.
Education first.
Baseball always.
Whether you volunteer, give, or help open a new door, your support helps kids stay in school, grow in confidence, and build a future beyond the field.
