The vision is growing.
The work is already happening.
More than 60 young people now train across three teams, remain enrolled in school, and stay connected to adults who care about who they become—not only how well they play. Vias RD sustains this work on an annual budget of approximately $12,000.
Current Impact
More than numbers. These are doors kept open.
Every number represents a young person with a place to play, a reason to keep showing up, and another adult reminding them that their future can hold more than one possibility. Enrollment changes throughout the season, but the commitment does not.

How Change Takes Root
Impact is built in the return.
A player returns to practice. A coach asks about school. A family stays connected. A young person learns that discipline on the field and responsibility away from it belong to the same future. That rhythm repeats week after week.

Practice
Players train nearly every day, developing baseball skills, discipline, confidence, and teamwork.
Saturdays
Competition
The three teams compete against programs from Barahona and surrounding communities.
Each Semester
School Check
Vias RD reviews player attendance and grades and asks families and players to communicate honestly.
When Needed
Encouragement & Help
Staff check in at the office, on the field, and in the bleachers, involving families and offering help where they can.
Removing the Cost Barrier
Opportunity should not depend on what a family can afford.
Talent and commitment are found everywhere. Access is not. Vias RD does not require participation fees from players or their families, so a young person can belong to the program without placing another burden on the people who love him. Donations and sponsorships carry the costs families cannot.

The Power of Being Known
Someone notices when you stop showing up.
The mentorship is not a polished curriculum inside a finished building. It is a coach asking a question after practice. A conversation in the bleachers. A call to a parent. Encouragement when school becomes difficult. Help when the program has the ability to provide it.
Those moments tell a young person something simple and powerful: you are known here, your choices matter, and your future is worth paying attention to.

Julio Zenón continued playing with Los Piratas del Sur, became an All-Star, and graduated from high school in 2026. That is the kind of impact Vias RD exists to create: not choosing a young person's future for him, but helping him reach adulthood with more than one future still possible.

The field was the first Via. It will not be the last.
Baseball created the place to begin. The relationships built there are now opening new ways for girls to participate and showing why young people need a dedicated place for learning, mentorship, and opportunity.
