Open To The Community

Every student deserves access
to opportunity.

Many students will first connect with Vias RD through Baseball Via or Girls Softball Via. But the Vias Learning Center is not only for athletes. It is being built as a community education resource for students in Barahona who want help learning, growing, and preparing for a better future.

For Vias Students

Baseball and softball participants can use the Learning Center for school support, tutoring, English, technology, and academic accountability.

For Local Youth

The Learning Center will also serve students who do not play sports but need access to education, mentorship, English, STEM, and opportunity.

For Families

Families need trusted places where students can receive support after school, ask for help, build confidence, and stay on track.

The Education Via Model

Practical support.
Real skills.
A place to keep going.

The Education Via is designed to give Dominican youth access to the support they often lack: academic help, English learning, technology, STEM exposure, trusted adults, and a safe place to grow. For families, donors, and partners, this page explains how the Vias Learning Center can become a community education resource in Barahona.

Tutoring

Homework help, academic support, grade improvement, and encouragement when students fall behind.

English Classes

English instruction that can expand confidence, communication, education, employment, and future opportunities.

STEM Workshops

Hands-on learning in technology, problem-solving, digital skills, science, engineering, and creative thinking.

Life Skills

Leadership, responsibility, communication, goal-setting, career readiness, and preparation for life beyond school.

When students struggle, the answer should not be shame.

The answer should be support.

Connected To Every Via

Sports are one doorway.
The Learning Center is for the community.

Baseball Via and Girls Softball Via participants will be encouraged—and when needed, required—to use the Learning Center for academic support. If grades, attendance, or confidence begin to slip, the Learning Center becomes part of their success plan.

But the larger vision is community access. Students in Barahona should not have to play baseball or softball to receive tutoring, English classes, STEM workshops, mentorship, or help planning for their future.

Every student deserves a Via.
Whether they play sports or not.

The Vias Learning Center

A public-facing center
built for opportunity.

The Vias Learning Center will be the physical home for the Education Via: a place where students can receive consistent academic support, English instruction, STEM exposure, technology access, mentorship, and life-skills development.

After-School Support

A trusted place where students can study, ask questions, complete assignments, and receive consistent help.

English & STEM Access

Classes and workshops that introduce students to language, computers, problem-solving, technology, and future career paths.

Community Resource

A center designed to support local youth, families, Vias RD participants, and students who simply need access to opportunity.

This is what we need to build next.

Built For Broader Impact

More than sports support.
A community education initiative.

By serving both Vias RD participants and the broader youth community, the Education Via is positioned for support from education, youth development, technology, literacy, workforce readiness, and community development partners. It aligns naturally with broader education and digital learning priorities reflected by organizations such as UNESCO Education and Code.org.
